The To Do List

What to do, what to do.   The list seems endless.   Since a good part of my early morning involves  making sure things are set for the 'rents (my nickname for my mom and aunt),  I decided to keep a "To Do List" for myself along with a recent purchase of a planner to keep things in check.
Everyone has different reasons for keeping lists. It could be for organizational purposes or for personal goals.
I found that if I don't keep a list (regardless of some of it doesn't get done or not.) things get a bit chaotic,  appts get forgotten, phone calls are missed and that small window of time for myself that I would have otherwise had if I didn't miss one of the above things is gone.

Example of my list is as follows:
Order groceries
Double check on Mom's prescriptions
Exercise
Put dinner on before I log into work.

So, how do you plan your day?

Taking A Pause

1/2/2017

One of the things we all need to do is to take breaks.
We all have busy lives.  Whether it's taking care of older adults, children or even ourselves.  Sometimes, when life gets too overwhelming,  it doesn't hurt to take a few minutes and just clear your mind.
According to Psychology Today, the benefits of meditation are immense. They range from helping  people deal with insomnia, depression and even chronic pain.
Some of the different types of Meditation are:
Mindfulness Meditation: where you pay attention to sensations and thoughts.
Effortless Mediation: which is an unfocused type of meditation and geared towards people who are very focused.
And  Breathing Exercises:  Which if you have anxiety or depression (like yours truly) can help you  achieve calm with soothing your nervous system.
One of the things I decided to do for myself is meditate this year along with my regular exercise regime.
Whether its for 10 min, 30 min or even 5.  Take a pause!
If you can't take a class, download an app.  All of these have fees, but they are worth it in the end.  Especially for peace of mind.
Some really great apps include:
Calm: Which has music, meditation and nature scenes to help you.
Sattva: Which has guided meditations, a mood tracker and a heart rate monitor.
Headspace:  Which has 10 sessions, classes, progress reports along with rewards.

So, tell me. How do you get your zen on?

I hope everyone is having a great New Years.  One of the things I decided to do this year was to participate in a photo project.

So myself and a few others will be doing a few of them. This one is called Project 365 where you are supposed to take a photo a day.

Since it's the holiday, and it's winter here in the Northeast, I'm sharing one I took this past summer of this cutie sitting next to me at Central Park.
I used a 70-300 mm lens with my Canon Rebel T5.   It was just a standard lens and I literally had only had the camera like four days when i took  over 100 photos that morning.
Too cute!!  I think that's what I'll call her.
Have a good one!

I have a new hobby... Sort of !

I have a lot of hobbies.  I like dancing, working out, reading,  watching movies, interviewing people I admire and taking photos!
Now, I haven't been taking photos long or often.  I started when I would go to Bon Jovi shows and it grew.

Here are some of them  from "The Lost Highway Tour"  that I took a few years ago with my dear friend, Linda. Some are from Mohegan Sun, Others are from the Prudential Center in New Jersey.

These past year, I realized how much I missed taking photos. It's about capturing that moment and just having a great time.
So, I got a new camera and took some of these this past summer.

I have a lot to learn!!!!!  But I feel that as I'm continuing to take photos,  I'm getting better.   What do you think??

When you realized that you haven't blogged in forever... like

My god it's been awhile.   A lot  has changed since I last blogged.   I got not one, but two cool jobs in the media industry.  I'm going to be re-releasing a couple of books with some pretty new covers and a lot of re-working and I have this need these days to reflect, take stock of the things that are important.

What in the H have I been doing since I last wrote?  Well, not only getting over a severe bout of anxiety and depression due to just burying my feelings and constantly trying to please others, but I realized that I lot of this anxiety came from fears of the unknown and what ifs.
It was a long two years, but I made it through.   Thanks to journaling (as part of my therapy) and realizing those what if's are a good thing.    Everyone needs to get out of their comfort zone at times and do what makes THEM happy.  Otherwise,  you'll cease to live the life you WANT to live as oppose to just coasting through and doing what others want you to do.
I was cyber stalked and builled by of all people a quasi celebrity who used that influence as a way to intimdate  and attempt to censor by serving myself and others with a cease and desist that local authorties stated had no legal merit.
I refused to back down  along with others despite his attempts of gaslighting and other methods.
The group of girls he did this to.  I will always have a bond with you.  Thank you for teaching me that despite how different we all are and the fact that we didn't know each other,  you taught me to be strong  and to face things head on.
I lost a couple of  friends  due to his antics, but it's all good.  Friends should be supportive and understanding.  And also should be able to agree to disagree on issues.   If you can't do that with me, then goodbye.  Who wants to agree all the time on EVERYTHING?  Friendships would be boring, right?  You wouldn't be able to learn something about other people.
During this time,  I also am  a proud caregiver of two of the strongest ladies I know. My mom and aunt.
I would and will walk through fire for them.
A little secret,  a couple of years ago. I left my job of 15 years actually for them.  They needed me.  They were older, not as mobile, they needed things to be taken care of that I couldn't do previously without a lot of back and forth from my job.  And to be honest, I was exhausted emotionally.
So, I began to not only take care of myself,  but also take care of them. I realized that I couldn't take care of them if I was a mess.  When I quit, I was a complete mess.  But the first thing I learned  was that to care of them, I had to fix myself first.  Also, I realized that I needed help with them.
Now, if you aren't familiar with being a caregiver, it's not an easy task.  You deal with bills, doctors, insurances, proxy's, you name it.  It's crazy.  LOL.  After doing this now, I got pretty good  system down  and finally after some back and forth with my mother and aunt (thanks to a cancer scare and a fall )   we have help for them so that I can live my life a bit and have some balance.
I'm at the point where I have a bunch of freedom like I had  when they were mobile. So, I'll be traveling a LOT in 2017!  A whole lot.
With that, there is a lot of  happiness and a bit of guilt.
Am I doing the right thing?  Will they be ok?  What will happen if I'm not there?  What if I can't get home in time if something happens?   These are  the  questions  at the moment that are running rampant in my mind.
Everyone says, it will go away, but wow.  I can't help it. LOL.
Who else is a caregiver?  Did you feel like this?   Does this feeling go away. Please tell me.
Also, there is the election.   Just wow!
I just have an urge to help at this point. Because I feel a lot of people  will need a lot of it.   And while I'm not happy with the results,  I feel that I could be needed helping people affected by what is about to happen to them.   (That's where I'll be)
Oh, BTW,  I'll be posting my travels beginning with my trip  to Florida in the next few weeks.
This is what i've been doing .. What have all of you been doing?

Hello!!!!   Long time, no blog!!
I've had a lot of stuff happen over the last few months and I'll just tell you straight.
If you didn't see my live FB Q&A,  I announced that I have been suffering from a pretty bad bout of depression for a pretty long time.
I recently was diagnosed earlier this summer and I'm doing and feeling so much better.
Everyone has been truly supportive about it and I appreciate it.
For a while, the depression stopped my ability to write how I used to.  Now, as a friend says. "I write in a new direction."
So I began to do that and the words have flowed.   I also left my real day job of 15 years and i'm slowly starting the process of freelance writing on top of working on WIPS.
I'll be posting a lot of my clips here on the blog as well as excerpts from my work.   My advice to anyone is that if feel you need help, ask for it. There is nothing wrong with it.   Also, if you feel like giving up, don't.  Always Keep Fighting.
As for stuff on the book front. I DO have news, but it's not official. It's on a new series and it's with a publishing house now.
I'll be doing a lot of blogging on this page, as well as doing some videos on my Facebook page also.
By the way, next week, I'll be doing the first of several Google Hangouts with Tigris Eden called "Chatting with Tigris and Ty" next week !  Hope you can join us!!
